The 10 Best Wired Mice of 2022 for Gaming & Work Tasks

Wireless mice have come a long way in recent years. But they still can’t compete with the best wired mice, which are faster and immune to frequency interference. Some users (myself included) also find that wired mice feel better in your hand, grounding your grip and ensuring consistent performance at work and in-game. Sure, the cord can be annoying at times, adding to clutter and rubbing against your desk. But for many, a reliable connection is well worth the small sacrifice.

If you’re a performance enthusiast who cares more about consistency than convenience, I’ve curated today’s top wired mice just for you. Whether for work or gaming, these options will provide you with a tried-and-true, stable connection that gets the job done without fail.

How We Evaluated These Wired Mice

Wired mice are simpler than wireless ones, and you don’t need to worry about annoyances like battery life or input stability. But they still vary dramatically in quality. To ensure proper functioning, I tested and researched over a dozen popular options, checking to see which provide the best experience in work tasks like word processing and gaming environments like Valorant.

Here are the criteria I used to judge and eliminate all but the best wired mice:

1. Responsiveness – Even though wired mice connect directly to your device, latency and accuracy can still pose issues. That’s why I began by checking the quality of the connection and sensor, ensuring all your clicks and movements register as expected.

2. Ergonomics – Mouse ergonomics are critical for your wrist health and workflow, and your wired mouse should feature a supportive shell that accommodates different grips, as well as a lengthy cord suitable for various setups.

3. Features – Wired mice can go beyond simple interfacing with your PC. I sought options with extra functionality like adjustable DPIs, programmable buttons, and workflow-enhancing software.

4. Design – The look and feel of your mouse sets the tone for your workspace, and studies suggest that minimal designs may lead to increased productivity. Similarly, if you’re seeking a gaming mouse, LEDs and more aggressive angles may inspire greater ferocity (plus, they look amazing).

5. PricingCompared to wireless mice, wired mice begin at a lower price point and climax at a lower peak. SitWorkPlay wants to showcase the best deals for everyone, and you’ll find the top-performing mice in every price range.

Keeping these considerations in mind, I eliminated dozens of mice that — while adequate — don’t meet SitWorkPlay’s high expectations for excellence. You can rest assured that the following list represents the best wired mice available.

Bask in the glow of the Razer Basilisk V3, a ferocious gaming mouse designed to strike at your enemies and eliminate them with reckless abandon. This description may seem a little dramatic, but the Basilisk is genuinely the best wired gaming mouse on the market. Among its vast array of features and specifications, the only real downside I’ve noticed is the 129-gram shell (wire included) that puts it in the upper weight echelons of pro-grade mice.

The Basilisk’s crowning achievement is its 5ms response time, a record-setting feat that blows every other mouse out of the water. Combined with the Focus+ Optical sensor and 1,000 Hz polling rate, it reacts to your clicks in record time. You can also move it around your desk at breakneck speed, courtesy of the snakelike Razer™ Speedflex Cable.

The Razer’s other big win is its ergonomic grip. While most pro-grade gaming mice prioritize aerodynamics above all else, Razer includes a thoughtful design that promotes healthier posture and still maintains snappy movement.

Pros

  • Ergonomic grip is comfortable for different sized hands
  • 11 programmable buttons provide easy access to your most-used actions
  • Ultra-fast 5ms response time responds to your clicks before your opponents have time to react

Cons

  • Lacks profile switching options on macOS
  • Fairly heavy at 129 grams (with wire) and 101 grams without

  • Sync with Windows Hello for keyless entry to your business desktop

Learn more about the Dell MS819 from these online retailers.

Dell may have been a pioneer of the modern tech industry, but it’s not currently known for cutting-edge gadgets. That’s why I was surprised to discover the Dell MS819, a plug-and-play mouse with multiple innovative features.

The Dell MS819’s main selling point is its fingerprint reader, which sits right behind the scroll wheel near the center of the mouse. I’ve found that reaching this point feels easy and natural, as it rests just past the center of the mouse’s arc-like peak. Place your print on the sensor whenever logging into Windows, and it’ll pop open your desktop just like an iPhone! I’ve found this functionality incredibly useful for business folks who log in and out of their systems all day.

The mouse’s other inspiring feature is the arc-like shape. Although Dell took inspiration from Microsoft’s Arc Mouse, its R&D team adapted it for their own. The mouse’s unique design offers a supportive grip for left- and right-handed users and keeps your wrist comfy throughout the day. While it does take some getting used to mousing without edges to grip, your wrists will thank you in the long run.

Pros

  • Accurate optical sensor tracks like a dream
  • Plug-and-play design should work out of the box
  • Curved shell remains comfortable over long work hours

Cons

  • Strange arc design takes some time to get used to
  • Some online reviewers claim initial jittering until they updated firmware (link here)

Best Budget Wired Mouse for Gaming: Logitech G203

At A Glance
  • Price: $19.99
  • Maximum DPI: 8,000
  • Connectivity: Wired
  • Buttons: 6
  • Weight: 85 grams
  • Best for: Gaming on a budget
  • Warranty: 2 Years
  • Return Period: 14 Days
  • Shipping: $5
Highlights
  • Mechanical buttons offer a crisp, tactile click
  • Proprietary Logitech optical sensor tracks smoothly across most surfaces
  • LIGHTSYNC-capable LEDs give the mouse customizable lighting effects

Learn more about the Logitech G203 from these online retailers.

The Logitech G203 is a top-performing mouse on a low-tier budget. For just $20, you gain access to a suite of game-enhancing technology, including 8,000 DPI movement and a 1,000 Hz polling rate. According to independent tests, these combine to provide a response time under 10ms — incredible for a mouse at this price point.

It’s not all smooth-sailing for the G203, however. While I love the ambidextrous shell design, I hate the raised DPI adjustment button beneath the scroll wheel. Switching between DPI on the fly is convenient, yes. But it’s way too easy to accidentally press while firing off the left and right trigger buttons.

Fortunately, I found a solution within Logitech’s G Hub software, which lets you change or disable the button and DPI with just a few clicks. If you enjoy tinkering with RGBs, you can also use G Hub to adjust the lighting with nifty colors and effects.

Pros

  • Features an affordable $20 starting price
  • Comes in several different colors, including black, blue, lilac, and white
  • 1,000 Hz polling rate provides a sub-10ms response time from initial click

Cons

  • Raised DPI buttons are easy to press by accident
  • Standard non-braided cable feels less durable than woven variants

Best Budget Wired Mouse for Work: Logitech B100

At A Glance
  • Price: $7.99
  • Maximum DPI: 1,000
  • Connectivity: Wired
  • Buttons: 3
  • Weight: 90 grams
  • Best for: Office work on a budget
  • Warranty: 3 Years
  • Return Period: 30 Days
  • Shipping: $4.99
Highlights
  • Features optical tracking with 1,000 DPI
  • Scroll wheel notches offer tactile, line-by-line page adjustments
  • Syncs with every major operating system, including Windows, macOS, Linux, and Chromebook

Learn more about the Logitech B100 from these online retailers.

The B in Logitech’s B100 mouse stands for business. That said, I’m not sure I’d recommend it to the everyday professional. It doesn’t offer much compared to Logitech’s other enterprise-oriented mice — just the standard two buttons and a scroll wheel. But it MSRPs at $7.99 ($6.99 with free shipping from Amazon) and comes with Logitech’s legendary craftsmanship, making it a no-brainer for users on a budget.

With that in mind, I definitely recommend the Logitech B100 to users seeking a simple, no-frills mouse that gets the job done. Although I’m a righty, the mouse’s ambidextrous design seems well-suited for left-handed users, as well. The optical sensor tracks like a pro and your cursor should move across your screen with reasonable accuracy and speed.

Pros

  • Plug and play design works right out of the box
  • Ambidextrous design works for right- and left-handed users
  • Provides access to Logitech’s quality and software ecosystem for just $8

Cons

  • Some users dislike the tactile and clicky scroll wheel
  • Simple, boring design lacks extra buttons and customizability

Best Wired Mouse for Ergonomics: Cooler Master MM720

At A Glance
  • Price: $29.99
  • Maximum DPI: 32,000
  • Connectivity: Wired
  • Buttons: 6
  • Weight: 49 grams
  • Best for: Ergonomics
  • Warranty: 2 Years
  • Return Period: 30 Days
  • Shipping: Free
Highlights
  • PixArt PMW3389 ensures accurate, reliable tracking
  • Lightweight fiber cord moves easily, without much force
  • Ergonomic shell features a place for your thumb and pinky

Learn more about the Cooler Master MM720 from these online retailers.

Most ergonomic mice have a right-side groove or edge to support your thumb while working or gaming. What makes the Cooler Master MM720 unique is its dual right- and left-side ergonomics. You can position your thumb within the MM720’s contoured slot and enjoy a ledge to rest your pink and ring finger. In my experience, this reduces strain, encourages comfort, and even ensures a more formidable grip on the mouse. This is especially important given the lightweight honeycomb design that snaps around your desk like whiplash.

The biggest downside I’ve encountered with the MM720 is its more fragile shell. There’s some give when you squeeze or push against it with too much force. Even more jarring, some users encounter buttons that rub together and squeak after a few months of use. If you’re one of the unlucky ones, contact Cooler Master for a prompt replacement or drip a little silicone lubricant in between the crevices. Not an ideal solution, but it does get the job done.

While I’d generally recommend users stay away from products with durability issues like this, the MM720 is too ergonomic and performative to pass up.

Pros

  • RGB illuminates the mouse’s interior with a subtle glow
  • Glides easily atop virgin-grade PTFE mouse feet
  • Ultra-light honeycomb shell weighs just 49 grams without the wire, 80 with the wire

Cons

  • Buttons may begin to rub and squeak after a few months, requiring lubrication
  • Mouse shows some give when squeezed with moderate force; be extra careful

Best Vertical Wired Mouse: Anker Vertical

At A Glance
  • Price: $23.99
  • Maximum DPI: 1,600
  • Connectivity: Wired
  • Buttons: 5
  • Weight: 95
  • Best for: Handshake ergonomics
  • Warranty: 18 months
  • Return Period: 30 Days
  • Shipping: Free
Highlights
  • Vertical design encourages optimal, handshake-like wrist and palm posture
  • Swap between 1,000 or 1,600 DPI with integrated button
  • Compatible with Windows, macOS, and Linux

Learn more about the Anker Vertical from these online retailers.

If you’re experiencing hand pain and a standard ergonomic mouse isn’t helping, it may be time to upgrade to a vertical mouse. The Anker Vertical is an affordable, reliable option that can help reduce pain and increase comfort for under $25.

Although vertical mice require an adjustment period (give yourself a week or so to acclimate), they support your hand in an ergonomist-recommended handshake grip. The Anker expands on this foundation, integrating additional features like convenient thumb buttons and even multiple DPIs for different cursor speeds. I’ve found that the Anker remains incredibly comfortable throughout the workday, maintaining vital support without any fatigue or pain.

While I haven’t owned one long enough to know for myself, many users report surface peeling after about a year of ownership. Luckily, Anker includes a generous 18-month warranty and has excellent customer support should things go awry.

Pros

  • Feels exceptionally comfortable with minimal fatigue after an entire day’s work
  • Anker’s optical sensor tracks smoothly with great accuracy
  • Convenient thumb buttons let your shortcut around the web or desktop; usually only found on gaming mice

Cons

  • Surface coating begins to peel after a year of regular use
  • Awkward left-side cord placement may get in your way during certain activities

Best Wired Mouse for Windows: Microsoft Pro Intellimouse

At A Glance
  • Price: $52.18
  • Maximum DPI: 16,000
  • Connectivity: Wired
  • Buttons: 5
  • Weight: 141 grams
  • Best for: Windows workstations, light gaming
  • Warranty: 1 Year
  • Return Period: 30 Days
  • Shipping: Free
Highlights
  • Mechanical buttons offer a tactile and responsive feel
  • Optical PixArt PAW3389PRO-MS sensor guarantees accurate tracking up to 400″ per second
  • Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center provides easy customization

Learn more about the Microsoft Pro Intellimouse from these online retailers.

The Microsoft Pro Intellimouse looks straight from the future, with a stunning two-tone design that seamlessly meshes with modern office environments. Yet, it’s a reboot of the classic 1996 mouse that launched Microsoft into the peripherals game in the first place. This new rendition features gaming-grade specs, with a 16,000 maximum DPI and a 1,000 Hz polling rate that signals your computer every 1ms. In terms of actual response time, the Intellimouse does lag a little at 17ms, but that should be unnoticeable by everyone except pro gamers.

While it works on Windows and macOS, I primarily recommend it for the former. The reason being, you need to use Microsoft’s Mouse and Keyboard Center to customize your DPI, polling rate, and even the Intellimouse’s tail-end RGB lighting strip.

Pros

  • Rubberized sides ensure a steady grip
  • Sleek design includes a perfectly subtle tail-end lighting strip
  • Two conveniently-located thumb buttons are ideal for browsing and gaming

Cons

  • Fairly large, measuring 5.2″ x 2.7″ x 1.7″
  • Customization software only works on Windows machines

Best Wired Mouse for Mac: Macally Rocket

At A Glance
  • Price: $19.99
  • Maximum DPI: 2,400
  • Connectivity: Wired
  • Buttons: 3
  • Weight: 119 grams
  • Best for: Mac users
  • Warranty: 2 years
  • Return Period: 30 Days
  • Shipping: $5.95
Highlights
  • USB-C connection port fits all iMacs and Macbooks
  • Ambidextrous design suits right- and left-handed Mac users
  • DPI adjusts from 800 to 2,400 with center adjustment button

Learn more about the Macally Rocket from these online retailers.

Unfortunately, Apple discontinued its outstanding Mighty Mouse back in 2017 as part of its push towards wireless everything. While the Macally Mouse isn’t the Mighty Mouse (RIP), it is a decent substitute specifically designed for macOS.

At first glance, the Macally Rocket doesn’t appear particularly special, with a 2,400 maximum DPI and standard optical tracking. You actually have to experience the mouse to appreciate everything it has to offer. Among its many features, my favorite is the plug-and-play connectivity, which works on macOS Puma up to Monterey. It also comes with a USB-C port that slips inside your Mac like a hermit crab sliding into its shell. Perhaps most importantly, the ultra-quiet membrane switches ensure a tranquil office space without those annoying clickity clacks.

Pros

  • Affordable $20 price tag is one-quarter the price of a new Magic Mouse
  • Sleek design looks excellent paired with your iMac or MacBook
  • Quiet membrane switches ensure near-silent button presses

Cons

  • Comes with fairly average DPI and tracking
  • Reports that some Macally mice suddenly stop working (fortunately, there’s a 2-year warranty)

Best Wired Mouse for MMOs: Corsair SCIMITAR RGB ELITE

  • Warranty: 2 Years
  • Return Period: 30 Days
  • Shipping: Free
Highlights
  • 17 programmable buttons ensure quick access to your entire move pool
  • Key Slider™ mechanism adjusts the side keys to match your grip
  • Braided cable provides durability and a secure connection

Learn more about the Corsair SCIMITAR RGB ELITE from these online retailers.

While I personally prefer the Razer Naga for gaming, the Corsair SCIMITAR isn’t far behind. Although it can’t match the Naga’s insane 5ms response time, it’s no slouch at 12ms. It’s also wired, ensuring a more grounded feel than the more ‘floaty’ Naga.

The Corsair SCIMITAR comes with 17 programmable buttons powered by best-in-class Omron mechanical switches. Bind all your WoW or League of Legends abilities to each numbered button, and access them with a simple thumb press! You won’t be disappointed by the Corsair’s performance, courtesy of its PixArt PMW3391’s 18K optical sensor. The mouse even integrates Corsair’s Surface Calibration Utility, which detects and automatically adjusts responsiveness based on your desktop surface or mouse pad material. It may sound gimmicky, but the way it tracks across the desk will make you a believer.

Pros

  • Ergonomic grip and right-side texturing feel secure and comfortable over long hours
  • Omron’s mechanical button switches offer excellent tactility; rated for 50 million clicks
  • Pixart’s 18K sensor and Corsair’s Surface Calibration Utility provide incredible accuracy and responsiveness

Cons

  • Corsair’s software is prone to bugs, glitching, and crashing
  • 12ms response time doesn’t match its closest competition’s 5ms performance

Best Wired Trackball: Kensington SlimBlade™ Trackball

  • Connectivity: Wired
  • Buttons: 4
  • Weight: 318 grams
  • Best for: Trackball users
  • Warranty: 2 Years
  • Return Period: 30 Days
  • Shipping: Free
Highlights
  • 55mm trackball moves easily atop a frictionless basin
  • Features four programmable buttons in a quadrant format
  • Dual laser sensor offers pin-point accurate cursor movement

Learn more about the Kensington SlimBlade™ Trackball from these online retailers.

Kensington is the king of trackball mice, offering over a dozen different solutions. Of all the company’s products, its SlimBlade™ wired Trackball is the most intriguing. Even though it’s been on the market for 15 years and lacks modern tech integrations, that’s also a testament to its timeless design. The Kensington SlimBlade™ Trackball works incredibly well, gliding around its perch with surprising accuracy. The dual laser sensor tracks X- and Y-axis movement, offering responsive movement and a scrolling feature that adapts your web page or document as you rotate the ball.

My largest complaint with the Kensington SlimBlade™ is its lack of an integrated wrist rest. Due to the large 55mm trackball, you have to reach over two inches high to point your cursor — a significant oversight on Kensington’s part. I only recommend the SlimBlade™ Trackball if you’re willing to splurge on a supportive wrist rest in addition to the $110 price tag.

Pros

  • Ambidextrous design works well for every user
  • KensingtonWorks™ Software lets you customize your buttons and sensitivities on Windows and macOS
  • Metallic finish looks luxurious on your desk; features a lovely pop of red

Cons

  • It’s a 15-year-old model that lacks modern integrations
  • Doesn’t come with an integrated palm support, and the 55mm trackball is over two
