One of the Best Gaming Keyboards

The 10 Best Gaming Keyboards of 2022 for Pro-Level Performance

Keyboards are the primary interface between you and the on-screen actions. Every click and keypress changes the course of your gameplay, sometimes for better, sometimes for worse. Either way, it should be your skill that determines the outcome, not your keyboard’s janky craftsmanship or failing mechanisms. Take control of your gameplay by choosing one of the best gaming keyboards instead.

Ask any PC gamer, and they’ll tell you what a difference the right keyboard makes. The thing is, what’s right for one player isn’t necessarily right for another. That’s why I’ve curated today’s top options, outlining the pros and cons of each model so you can find one that suits your playstyle. Whether you prefer wired or wireless models, TKL or 60%, your new ally is somewhere on this list awaiting discovery.

How We Evaluated These Gaming Keyboards

SitWorkPlay is all about providing a comprehensive look at today’s most popular gaming gear. That’s why I dug deep into the Call of Duty trenches for this article, testing out keyboards in various scenarios and supplementing my findings with in-depth research and user reviews from within the gaming community.

Here’s a look at the criteria I used to determine today’s top models:

1. Quality – Craftsmanship is the cornerstone of every reliable product, which is why I start each keyboard evaluation with a look at chassis and keycap material, switch brand, and overall longevity reports.

2. Responsiveness – Whether you’re playing casual or competitive, slow response times aren’t just frustrating — they can easily cost you the match. The best gaming keyboards feature 1ms+ report rates suitable for all types of play.

3. Features – Although every keyboard boasts a unique set of specs, I prioritized models with sought-after features like swappable switches, programmability, RGB backlighting, and game-enhancing technology like NKRO.

4. Design – There’s no one-size-fits-all keyboard, but I want yours to feel like it was custom built just for you. From 60% to TKL to full-size models that come in both wired and wireless configurations, there’s an option here for everybody.

5. Budget – Recent trends show gaming keyboards rising in price, with many top-rated options exceeding the $200 mark. But I’ve found several hidden gems, lining up suitable options that start at just $25.

There are hundreds of keyboards out there, and the vast majority failed to make the final cut. Rest assured, the following ten keyboards showcase the best options for enhancing your gameplay.

  • Corsair Optical switches offer best-in-class durability, up to 150 million clicks
  • Programmable iCue Control wheel lets you perform custom actions in your favorite games

Check out the K100 from Corsair on the manufacturer’s site to see more features.

Corsair has been in the manufacturing game for nearly 30 years now, and the company has dozens of keyboards under its belt. Although the design team consistently ships quality products, the Corsair K100 is on an entirely different level. It’s the first model to integrate the brand’s new AXON Hyper-Processing Technology, which provides an 8,000Hz hyper-polling rate for response times down to 0.25ms. Although you’re unlikely to experience much more than a minor boost at present, this futuristic technology will scream as soon as faster displays are available.

The Corsair ships in two variants: one with Cherry MX Speed switches and another with Corsair Opticals. Although Cherry always provides a top-tier experience, Corsair’s proprietary switches are much more exciting. These require 45g of actuation force and activate at the 1mm mark. They’re also the most durable switches on the market, with a per-key lifespan of 150 million clicks!

My biggest grievance with the K100 is the lack of a TKL model. The full-size 110-key layout is quite bulky, and it takes up too much space on my desk.

Pros

  • Aluminum chassis has a sleek, brushed metal aesthetic
  • Magnetic wrist rest features a soft leatherette cover with plush memory foam interior
  • NKRO and 100% anti-ghosting technology ensure all your keypresses register

Cons

  • Some users dislike the larger 110-key form factor
  • Quite expensive, with an entry price that starts over $200

Best Gaming Keyboard for Beginners: Logitech G Pro X

At A Glance
  • Price: $149.99
  • Layout: Tenkeyless
  • Connectivity: Wired
  • Switches: Kailh Brown, Kailh Blue, Kailh Red
  • Best for: Simplicity, performance, beginner modding
  • Warranty: 2 Years
  • Return Period: 30 Days
  • Shipping: Free
Highlights
  • Kailh switches and 1ms report rate spring into action for a competitive edge
  • Swappable switch sockets provide precision control over the performance of each key
  • Simple, elegant design ensures an easy, intuitive gaming experience with minimal distraction

Check out the G PRO X from Logitech on the manufacturer’s site to see more features.

The Logitech G Pro X is simplicity, refined. It’s no Corsair K100 with features tucked into every nook and cranny, but that’s not the point. Instead, it’s a fantastic starter model that performs as well for pros as it does for beginners.

Out of the box, the Logitech G Pro X offers a 1ms response time that’s snappy enough for today’s major competitive titles, including games like Valorant, CS: GO, and League of Legends. Meanwhile, the classy tenkeyless design blends well with every setup, offering a minimal take without sacrificing essential gaming functionality. If the all-black design isn’t flashy enough for you, just open up Logitech’s G Hub software to personalize the keyboard’s RGB LED backlighting with over 16 million color variants.

The feature that really sets G Pro X apart is its swappable switch sockets. Pick up some extra Kailh switches (preferable from somewhere other than Logitech, which sells them at a significant markup), and mix-and-match your keyboard for a customized feel. This keyboard presents an excellent starting point for beginners who want to start modding their keyboards yet value the reliability of a prominent brand.

Pros

  • Programmable F keys provide customizable actions and commands
  • Detachable cable makes it easy to transport the G Pro X to tournaments
  • Lightsync RGB lights up your desk; easily adjustable via Logitech’s G Hub software

Cons

  • May want to purchase extra switches elsewhere, expensive from Logitech
  • Bottom keycaps feature a proprietary design, so you can’t swap them out

Best Budget Gaming Keyboard: Redragon K552

At A Glance
  • Price: $31.99
  • Layout: Tenkeyless
  • Connectivity: Wired
  • Switches: Outemu Red
  • Best for: PC gaming on a budget
  • Warranty: 18 Months
  • Return Period: 30 Days
  • Shipping: Free
Highlights
  • Aluminum frame and plate-mounted keys provide excellent stability
  • Built-in backlighting comes with 19 color cycles that change with the push of a button
  • Cherry-equivalent mechanical switches feature 45gf actuation force and 2mm travel distance

Check out the K552 from Redragon on the manufacturer’s site to see more features.

If you’ve spent any time on Amazon, you’ve probably seen countless Redragon keyboards at varying prices. Although Redragon lacks the quality control of other manufacturers, you can still find some exceptional deals with (relatively) few sacrifices.

The Redragon K552 is an excellent example. Sure, you’ll have to deal with thinner ABS keycaps and a slim, non-detachable cord. But in doing so, you can pick up a respectable mechanical keyboard for around $30. The K552 offers a simple TKL form factor that’s a natural fit with Redragon’s simple plug-and-play capabilities. Although you can’t customize the backlighting or F keys, the keyboard comes with reliable preset configurations. The former, in particular, offers a whopping 19 color cycles, with stunning effects such as TK and TK.

While some users harp on Outemu’s Cherry-inspired mechanical switches, I’m personally a big fan. They feel close enough to the real deal but come in at one-third the cost, making them a no-brainer for gamers on a budget.

Pros

  • Plug-and-play design lets you get started in minutes
  • Sleek tenkeyless form factor takes up little room atop your desk
  • Anti-ghosting technology ensures all your keystrokes register properly

Cons

  • Poor-quality, non-detachable cable looks and feels cheap
  • Thin ABS keycaps with printed legends are thin and rattle under pressure

Best Tenkeyless Gaming Keyboard: HyperX Alloy Origins Core

At A Glance
  • Price: $79.99
  • Layout: Tenkeyless
  • Connectivity: Wired
  • Switches: HyperX Aqua, HyperX Blue, HyperX Red
  • Best for: PC and console gaming, lighting effects
  • Warranty: 2 Years
  • Return Period: 30 Days
  • Shipping: Free
Highlights
  • Supports PlayStation and Xbox consoles
  • Aircraft-grade aluminum body and 80-million keystroke switches ensure years of durability
  • HyperX Game Mode technology deactivates the Windows key and activates NKRO for distraction-free play

Check out the Alloy Origins Core from HyperX on the manufacturer’s site to see more features.

The HyperX Alloy Origins Core is a slimmed-down version of the HyperX Pro, yet it packs the same walloping punch as its big brother. It also comes in at two-thirds the price while maintaining HyperX’s iconic aircraft-grade aluminum frame and ultra-durable switches rated to 80 million keystrokes. Aside from their lifespan, the HyperX switches offer excellent performance with a classic mechanical feel that routinely receives praise throughout the gaming community. Choose from clicky Blue, tactile Aqua, or linear Red switches, and customize them with HyperX’s individual RGB LEDs, creating a custom light show that dances alongside your keystrokes.

My favorite about the smaller Core design is how well it works for console gaming. Fire up your PlayStation or Xbox, activate the keyboard settings module, and begin enjoying your favorite titles with a keyboard instead of a mouse. Depending on the game you’re playing, the Core offers an incredible competitive advantage that’ll see your name shoot to the top of the leaderboards. The only downside is that you can only enjoy HyperX’s powerful programmability on Windows 10.

Pros

  • Braided USB-C detaches for easy transport
  • Per-key LEDs offers pin-point control over lighting effects
  • Built-in memory lets you create and save custom lighting profiles

Cons

  • No wrist rest included with purchase
  • Customization and programmability only work with Windows 10

Best Wireless Gaming Keyboard: Razer BlackWidow V3 Pro

At A Glance
  • Price: $229.99
  • Layout: Full-size
  • Connectivity: Wireless
  • Switches: Razer Green, Razer Yellow
  • Best for: Wireless gaming
  • Warranty: 2 Years
  • Return Period: 14 Days
  • Shipping: Free
Highlights
  • Razer™ HyperSpeed provides sub-1ms response times that register near-instantaneously
  • Connects to your PC via wireless HyperSpeed, Bluetooth, or detachable USB-C
  • Media dial provides easy, customizable access to your most-used commands

Check out the BlackWidow V3 Pro from Razer on the manufacturer’s site to see more features.

Razer is one of those brands that most gamers either love or love to hate. While I tend to play Switzerland in such conflicts, even I can’t deny the power of its BlackWidow V3 Pro. This keyboard is among the most gamer-friendly wireless models available, with a plug-and-play design, sleek aluminum frame, and soft leatherette wrist rest that supports you like spidersilk. It’s also exceptionally powerful, with internal technology that delivers quite the bite.

While most wireless keyboards suffer from latency issues, the BlackWidow’s Razer™ HyperSpeed technology registers keystrokes with a sub-1ms response time. That’s even better than most wired models! These insane speeds are amplified further by Razer’s Yellow Switches, which feel similar to Cherry MX Reds and provide quiet and smooth actuation with minimal bump. You can also opt for the Razer Greens, which give a slightly louder, more responsive feel reminiscent of Cherry MX Blues.

No matter which switches you choose, you’ll still have to deal with Razer’s lackluster ABS keycaps. Considering its $229 price point, the BlackWidow should have come standard with thicker, shine-resistant PBT variants instead.

Pros

  • Premium leatherette offers a luxury aesthetic and prevents fatigue
  • Aluminum base and military-grade metal plates provide exceptional durability
  • Razer Chroma RGB delivers over 16.8 million colors, customizable via Razer Synapse software

Cons

  • Incorporates ABS keycaps; doubleshot PBT option costs extra
  • Hyperspeed only seems to work within a short distance < 10′ away

Best Ergonomic Gaming Keyboard: KINESIS Freestyle Edge RGB

At A Glance
  • Price: $219
  • Layout: Tenkeyless
  • Connectivity: Wired
  • Switches: Cherry MX Blue, Cherry MX Brown, Cherry MX Red, Cherry MX Silver
  • Best for: Ergonomics, comfort
  • Warranty: 2 Years
  • Return Period: 60 Days
  • Shipping: Varies
Highlights
  • Split ergonomic design encourages proper wrist posture
  • Detachable palm pad provides a cushiony smooth support
  • Variable MX switches with 1ms response time offer a responsive, mechanical experience that actuates at your desired force

Check out the Freestyle Edge RGB from Kinesis on the manufacturer’s site to see more features.

As an ergonomics freak, the Kinesis Freestyle Edge had my heart from the very beginning. Sure, the strange 2-piece design and dangling rollercoaster-like top cable look a little ridiculous compared to other premium keyboards. But if it’s as ergonomic as the company claims, that’s an easy sacrifice to make.

After several months of daily use, I’ve determined that the Edge is well worth the aesthetic sacrifice. There’s nothing else like its 2-piece design, which splits apart to provide a customizable angle that matches doctor-recommended hand placement like a custom-fitted glove. Rest your palms on the soft, built-in palm rests, align your fingers on the ABS keycaps, and prepare to fire Cherry MX switches as you game in ergonomic bliss. You can also use Kinesis’ SmartSet Programming Engine and LED backlighting to amp up your gameplay and illuminate your unique new setup.

Just note that the keyboard will feel strange during the first couple weeks of use. I recommend playing more casual games as you get a feel for the novel design.

Pros

  • Enjoy preconfigured backlighting effects or customize your own
  • Nine dedicated game keys provide easy access to essential functions
  • Built-in SmartSet Programming Engine lets you program nearly every aspect of the keyboard, from general settings to macros

Cons

  • Split design takes time to get accustomed to
  • Excess cable pokes out the top; looks a little messy

Best 60% Gaming Keyboard: Ducky One 2 Mini

At A Glance
  • Price: $108
  • Layout: 60%
  • Connectivity: Wired
  • Switches: Cherry MX, Gateron, Kailh, TTC
  • Best for: Pro gaming, portability
  • Warranty: 1 Year
  • Return Period: 30 Days
  • Shipping: Free
Highlights
  • Compact 60% design provides quick, easy access to all essential gaming keys
  • Ships with today’s most popular switch variants, ensuring a suitable fit for every playstyle
  • Doubleshot PBT keycaps and Cherry MX stabilizers guarantee key stability with minimal rattle

Check out the One 2 Mini from Ducky on Amazon to see more features.

The Ducky One 2 Mini proves that big things come in small packages. It’s a 60% keyboard that shaves off half the keys, incorporating the bare necessities and nothing more. While this may sound like a hindrance, the 60% design provides a minimal experience with quick, easy access to every key and function.

What I love most about the Ducky is its high-quality craftsmanship and minute attention to detail. Although there’s no hot-swappable option, you can choose between four of today’s most popular switches — Cherry, Gateron, Kailh, and TTC — and enjoy speedy responsiveness that provides an edge in competitive games. The detachable USB-C cable amps it up even faster, providing lightning-quick data transfer speeds that you can take advantage of right from the box.

The main downside to the Ducky is its wired-only configuration. When options like the Keycrhon K6 and Anne Pro feature wireless connectivity for almost half the price, it feels like a cop-out from the usually-reliable Ducky.

Pros

  • Comes with a future-proof, detachable USB-C cable
  • Plug-and-play functionality is ready to go out of the box
  • Punch up the cute, minimal aesthetic with a dose of customizable RGB backlighting

Cons

  • No wireless functionality, a shame considering the portable 60% layout
  • Lacks the customizability of other 60% keyboards

Best Gaming Keyboard for Tinkerers: SteelSeries Apex Pro

At A Glance
  • Price: $159.99
  • Layout: Full
  • Connectivity: Wired
  • Switches: Omnipoint
  • Best for: Tinkering, adjustable actuation
  • Warranty: 1 Year
  • Return Period: 30 Days
  • Shipping: Free
Highlights
  • Omnipoint switches feature a pro-grade response time of 0.7ms
  • OLED Smart Display offers a customizable screen that displays system-wide and in-game information
  • Per-key illumination creates a vibrant and dynamic lighting matrix, customizable to your liking

Check out the Apex Pro from SteelSeries on the manufacturer’s site to see more features.

SteelSeries’ new Omnipoint switches are unlike anything else on the market. The closest comparison is probably Topre’s adjustable switches, but you’re entering membrane keyboard territory with those. The SteelSeries Apex Pro offers all the perks of a mechanical keyboard alongside a single linear switch with customizable actuation.

Omnipoint switches work by continuously measuring the magnetic flux between the ABS keycaps and keyboard base plate. They also let you adjust that pressure to your liking, changing the actuation point from 0.4mm to 3.4mm within SteelSeries’ Engine software. Whether you prefer competitive-grade, hair-trigger keystrokes or a more relaxed typing experience, you can achieve it with Omnipoint.

The Apex Pro’s other unique feature is the OLED Smart Display which provides easy access to system and game info right on your keyboard. Unfortunately, this performs more like a gimmick than anything else. For one, it only syncs with a handful of games. And two, who looks at their keyboard while gaming?

Pros

  • Aluminum frame and 100 million keypress switches provide enough durability to withstand years of use and abuse
  • SteelSeries Engine software offers control over every aspect of the keyboard
  • Magnetic wrist rest snaps on with a click and supports your hands for better ergonomics

Cons

  • Smart display seems unnecessary; gamers don’t often look at their keyboards
  • Thick, non-removable cable cheapens the otherwise adaptable design

Best Low-Profile Gaming Keyboard: Alienware AW510K

At A Glance
  • Price: $114.99
  • Layout: Full
  • Connectivity: Wired
  • Switches: Cherry MX Low-Profile Red
  • Best for: Simple, quiet operation
  • Warranty: 2 Years
  • Return Period: 30 Days
  • Shipping: Free
Highlights
  • Low-actuation keys register strokes at the slightest touch
  • Slim form factor sits near-flush with your desk for a minimal, sophisticated aesthetic
  • Programmable keys and onboard memory support macros and custom key assignments

Check out the AW510K from Alienware on the manufacturer’s site to see more features.

Alienware is synonymous with pro-gaming computers. But the company is starting to move further into the peripheral space, with gear to match its high-end rigs.

One of the company’s more recent offerings is the Alienware AW510K, a slim, low-profile keyboard with all the bells and whistles. Its low-actuation keys provide a hyper-sensitive environment where you can activate your skills and abilities faster than ever before. You can also program the keys and save your presets to Alienware’s onboard memory.

While I enjoy a minimal aesthetic as much as the next guy, I won’t pretend to love the AW’s form factor. It looks more like a business keyboard from Alienware’s parent company (Dell) and less like an aggressive gaming machine. Fortunately, AlienFX provides backlighting functionality that gives you some room to play with the design.

Pros

  • Integrated audio roller lets you adjust volume on the fly
  • AlienFX RGB offers precision control over each key’s backlighting
  • USB passthrough provides an easy-access port for your gaming mouse or headset

Cons

  • Plain design seems better suited for a professional office
  • Takes up two USB ports when accessing keyboard’s full functionality

Best 65% Gaming Keyboard: ASUS ROG Falchion

At A Glance
  • Price: $132.99
  • Layout: 65%
  • Connectivity: Wireless
  • Switches: Cherry MX Blue, Cherry MX Brown, Cherry MX Red; ROG NX Blue, ROG NX Brown, ROG NX Red
  • Best for: Wireless gaming, portability
  • Warranty: 1 Year
  • Return Period: 30 Days
  • Shipping: Free
Highlights
  • 2.4 GHz RF latency provides a near-instantaneous response time rivaling other 1ms keyboards
  • Easy-touch control panel lets you adjust volume and create shortcuts with the swipe of your finger
  • Battery lasts for up to 450 hours on a single charge

Check out the ROG Falchion from ASUS on the manufacturer’s site to see more features.

My least favorite part about 60% keyboards is the lack of right-side arrow keys. The new ASUS ROG Falchion sidesteps the issue with a slightly bigger form factor that’s just as minimal and easy to transport. Unfortunately, the Falchion also takes a misstep with its prominently-advertised protective cover that’s anything but portable. It doesn’t even attach to the keyboard, and I wouldn’t trust it to protect my expensive keyboard during transport.

The good news is that the case is optional. Plus, ASUS gets nearly everything else right, offering the level of high-quality craftsmanship you’ve come to expect from the gaming brand. For instance, the Falchion features your choice of Cherry MX or proprietary ROG NX switches topped with doubleshot PBT keycaps that feature a responsive, perfectly-weighted keypress experience. The keyboard is also competition-ready, connecting to your PC via 2.4 GHz frequencies at a speed similar to Bluetooth.

Lastly, there’s the side control panel that lets you adjust volume and access shortcuts with the swipe of your finger. While this is a neat concept, the awkward location makes it challenging to use during battle. I’m almost inclined to dismiss it as just another gimmick, but I have found it suitable for adjusting volume on the fly.

Pros

  • Doubleshot PBT keycaps offer a premium feel with lasting durability
  • Aura Sync and per-key backlighting provide a customizable light show
  • Anti-ghosting and N-key rollover technology ensure every keypress actuates properly

Cons

  • Protective cover doesn’t remain attached to the keyboard
  • Its constant updates require regular system restarts
